GS61 activated carbon is a specialized potassium iodide (KI) impregnated activated carbon that triggers a catalytic reaction with oxygen, forming elemental sulfur.

The catalytic conversion of hydrogen sulfide and mercaptans into elemental sulfur occurs within the pores of the activated carbon, enabling a high reaction rate and a high adsorption capacity.

The reaction efficiency depends on the relative humidity of the gas stream. In cases of high humidity (70% or higher), pre-drying or heating of the gas stream is required.
